In this thesis, I operated Gérard Genette's theory regarding paratextual elements in order to define genre-defining elements and indications in both Natalie Koch's fantasy and literary publiations. This, in turn, has lead to a renewed emphasis on the guiding role of these elements regaring the interpretation of literary work, which questions the clear distinctions posed by Genette in his theory.
