The Power of Bureaucracy: How Trump’s advisory system affects his foreign policy

When Donald Trump was elected as president, he promised to upend foreign policy. After four years in office however, American foreign policy has not changed that drastically. The continuity of Trump’s foreign policy decisions is an effect of the absence of centralization in his management style. In this thesis, president Trump’s advisory system is determined by identifying the characteristics of Trump’s decision-making process of his decisions to continue the American NATO membership, to withdraw from the Paris Agreement and to withdraw American troops from Syria, and comparing those characteristics to Mitchell’s framework.
