The Response of the US to the Arab Spring Uprisings in Bahrain: What Realism Missed
- Author
- Zaidi, Tariq Ehsan
- Note
- The US response to the Arab Spring Uprisings in 2011 across MENA was charged with a liberal discourse stressing a pluralist, democratic, all-inclusive society. However, the US response to particularly Bahrain was of a different nature in comparison with Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Tunisia. This dissertation seeks to explain why the US reaction to Bahrain was not aligned with the liberal discourse propagated by the Obama administration through a theoretical framework called 'complex realism'.
