The Influence of Expertise and a Warm Communication Style on The Credibility of Conspiracy Theory Debunking: And the relationship between narcissistic traits and the acceptance of conspiracy theories

While social media has emerged as one of the primary sources for accessing information over the past decade, this has had the consequence of easily spreading misinformation, including conspiracy theories. This study investigates whether experts are more credible than non-experts in debunking conspiracy theories and whether the use of a warm communication style is more credible in debunking conspiracy theories than the use of a communication style without warmth. Additionally, it investigates the correlation between narcissistic traits in individuals and their susceptibility to conspiracy beliefs. These results emphasize the importance of expertise, communication style and personality traits in counteracting the spread of misinformation.
