Fanfiction: Creating in Collaboration

Fanfiction archiving sites are in their broadest sense a platform for reading and writing fanfiction, and in its most basic form, fanfiction is a creative labour that is meant to be shared and given freely on fanfiction platforms. But fanfiction archives and platforms are more than a collection of stories, they are places where people come together to share their experiences, fantasies and interests with people they consider friends, companions and kindred spirits. This dialogue between readers and writers is what sets fanfiction platforms apart from just any other writing platform, and it is what defines fanfiction at its core; creating in collaboration.
