Evaluating the Trajectory and Impact of Future AI-enabled Military Systems

Much of the academic literature on artificial intelligence (AI) and its integration into military affairs (MA) is theoretical and postulates whether these future systems will aid military organizations to obtain a competitive advantage and ultimately alleviate the fog of war. By looking at the current development of military AI at the Global Emerging Technology Summit organized by the National Security Commission on AI, may we better understand where the current trajectory of future AI-enabled military systems will end and whether these systems will have the capabilities to lift the fog of war? AI systems are powerful but at times limited in their current contemporary use, in conjunction with human cognitive biases and enhanced deceptive tactics, the advantage of future AI military systems will be questioned.
