A comparative analysis of Korean and Japanese phonology: How the Korean phoneme /l/ as a syllable-final corresponds to Japanese in Sino-Xenic words

This thesis addresses a gap in the research on the phonological relationships between Korean and Japanese, particularly in the context of Sino-Xenic words. These are loanwords borrowed from Chinese into both Japanese and Korean. The main research question is: "With what phoneme does the Korean phoneme /l/ at the end of syllables in Sino-Xenic words correspond in Japanese, and does a pattern emerge?" This inquiry is significant because it continues research in this area of phonological correspondences between the two languages, offering insights into how these phonemes relate to each other.
