The Performance of the Health of the Nations Outcome Scales Plus as a Clustering Tool for Trauma Patients in the Netherlands

In the Dutch Zorgprestatiemodel mental health care resources are supposed to be distributed more efficiently by allocating them to patients according to estimated care needs. The HoNOS+ clusters patients according to these care needs, called ‘Zorgvraagytpe,’. This study aimed to assess the performance of the HoNOS+. Participants (N = 1305) were patients with post-traumatic stress disorder at the Sinai Centrum in Amsterdam. The HoNOS+ and the Outcome Questionnaire (OQ-45) were administered. Additionally, treatment length and sociodemographic characteristics were recorded. A positive association between ZVT and provided treatment length was hypothesized. Moreover, it was explored whether age, gender and psychological functioning (OQ-45) are associated with the appropriateness of the ZVT prediction. As hypothesized, there was a significant association between ZVT decided by the intaker and ZVT suggested by the HoNOS+. Contrary to the hypothesis, higher Zorgvraagtype were associated with shorter treatment lengths. The exploration showed no association between age, gender and OQ-45 on the appropriateness of the ZVT prediction. The findings indicate that the predictions of the Zorgvraagtype were rather inaccurate, suggesting that resources may be assigned inappropriately with the HoNOS+. No factors were found that improved the prediction of the HoNOS+.Show less
