Opening Every Door: the Effects of Bilingual Tracks on Student Proficiency

The intention of this thesis is to give an overview of the current level of English at the Dutch teacher colleges, and to pay special attention to the differences in proficiency between students having completed a bilingual extracurricular programme and the students who have not. Due to the low enrolment rate for the bilingual programmes at the teacher colleges, the thesis research is a case study (n=8), but does endorse the hypothesis that the level of English of the students having completed a bilingual programme is a little higher than that of their peers in the regular stream.
