Moederlijk reflectief functioneren, de moeder-kind relatie  en externaliserende gedragsproblemen bij het kind

Research shows that maternal reflective functioning is of great importance, as it may play a crucial role in the development of the mother-child relationship and in later behavioral problems in children. By investigating this relationship, we can gain a better understanding of how reflective functioning is associated to attachment and mother-child interactions. This study is part of the longitudinal study ‘Een goed begin’ in Leiden, which focuses on young mothers' parenting and the development of their babies and toddlers. For the current study, data was collected from 142 mothers aged 18 to 29 at approximately 20 months postpartum. Additionally, there was a positive correlation between reflective functioning and externalizing behavioral problems. No significant association was found between the mother-child relationship and externalizing behavior. The study also shows that the quality of the mother-child relationship does not mediate or moderate between maternal reflective functioning and the child’s externalizing behavioral problems. The findings of this research provide valuable insights for practice, which can lead to more effective interventions. Further study of the mother-child relationship, reflective functioning, and externalizing behavior is needed to better understand these interconnections and clarify these concepts.Show less
