An Edible Park on Resilient Grounds: Exploring Permaculture and Communal Resilience at Edible Park, The Hague

This paper analyses Edible Park, a permacultural project set up in The Hague as part of art project Foodprint by Stroom Den Haag. Edible Park is an established centre for permacultural learning where students are taught a worldwide dispersed and unified permaculture course. My research focuses on analysing how Edible Park affects the resilience of the community of permaculture students and designers involved with it. Viewing permaculture through a critical lens of resilience allows for a clearer understanding of its potential effects outside of ecosystem regeneration. In order to do so, resilience is first clearly defined, after which the constituent parts of permaculture’s communality, being the binding factor to its community of practice, are set out. I argue that permaculture’s communality is the main impulse behind facilitating the community of permaculture students and designers active at Edible Park to grow resilient.
