On what basis did people (credentes) sentenced during the sermo generalis of 7 March 1316 receive their punishment? What was a big mistake to the inquisitors Bernard Gui and Geoffroy d'Ablis? This thesis uses both quantitative and qualitative analysis to establish a theory on what the inquisitors thought was evil or bad. To complement this research, this thesis has also examined the processes of three cathari leaders, to see what they were accused of and how their accusations related to their punishment, which turned out to be different than for the credentes.
