This thesis examines the role of gender in the questioning practices of televised literary interviews in the Netherlands. Using Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA), it systematically analyses interviews from the programs VPRO Boeken and Eus’ Boekenclub, focusing on the themes, content, and stylistic features of questions posed to authors. It contains a balanced corpus of interviews with both male and female authors to enable meaningful gender comparisons. The analysis reveals significant differences in the distribution and nature of questions: female authors are asked fewer content-focused questions about their books and more about personal and emotional topics. Questions to female authors also contain more presuppositions and framing that position them as emotional or personal storytellers. Male authors are framed as professional, autonomous experts.
