Beyond the Scores: Longitudinal Study on Detecting Response Shift in Bone Metastasis Patient: Tracking Changes in Health-Related Quality of Life

Patients with cancer often experience changes in how they evaluate their health-related quality of life (HRQL) due to disease progression and treatment. Understanding these changes is necessary to investigate patients’ perceived HRQL and determine treatment effectiveness accurately. The study examined for patients with bone metastasis whether response shift occurred by comparing various time periods, as well as detecting which HRQL factors were more strongly affected by response shift. The statistical method, Structural Equation Modeling (SEM), was used to investigate response shifts in longitudinal data that consisted of participants from a Dutch Bone Metastasis Study from 1999.
