Rewriting History: A Comparative Analysis of Mo Yan’s Big Breasts and Wide Hips and García Márquez’s One Hundred Years of Solitude

This thesis concentrates on two novels, One Hundred Years of Solitude (1967) by the Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez and Big Breasts and Wide Hips (1996) by the Chinese author Mo Yan. I attempt to compare the ways in which García Márquez and Mo Yan rewrite history by a close examination of the two novels mentioned above. Moreover, I aim to explore the significance of their attempts to rewrite history.
