The Emperor's Teacher: How Wang Anshi Contributed to the Fall of the Northern Song Dynasty

By means of a wide variety of primary and secondary sources I will aim to carefully construct compelling and substantiated arguments in answering the question: “In which ways did Wang Anshi contribute to the fall of the Northern Song?” This study focuses predominantly on providing a broad understanding of his role in these events by interpretating primary source material by Wang Anshi’s own hand, as well as re-interpretating secondary source material by contemporary historians, sinologists and other scholars.
