The effect of COVID-19 on people's gaming activities in South Korea

The COVID-19 pandemic has influenced people’s lives in many ways. This study researches the influence of COVID-19 on people’s gaming activities in South Korea by looking at the most watched games on Twitch.tv during that period. Games are categorised into either team or solo games, with team games overall being the most popular type of games due to friends playing them together in PC bangs. However, it was found that due to the pandemic restricting access to PC bangs, solo games gained popularity and even overtook team games as the most popular games. After social distancing measures were lifted, team games once again took over as the most popular games which indicates that PC bangs remain an important part of Korean society.
