The Dual Dimensions of Power: Examining Influence and Autonomy in Self-Other Integration through the Joint Simon Task

Power is conceptualized as a dual construct comprising social power (influence over others’ outcomes) and personal power (autonomy from others’ influence). This thesis investigated how these power dimensions affect self-other integration in joint action, operationalized via the Joint Simon Task. We hypothesized that (1) high-influence participants would exhibit larger Joint Simon Effects than low-influence participants, (2) high-autonomy participants would exhibit smaller effects than low-autonomy participants, and (3) interaction between influence and autonomy would further modulate integration. Fifty-six participants were assigned to a 2×2 between-subjects design (high vs. low influence × high vs. low autonomy) and completed a go/no-go Joint Simon Task under controlled conditions.
