The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic affected the mental health of youth and adolescence around the globe. Childhood trauma, low parental income and low parental educational level were risk factors during the pandemic and associated with heightened risks of mental health problems, fear, hyperactivity and vulnerability to change in the private lives of youth. The current study investigated whether the severity of childhood trauma and height of socioeconomic status affected the degree of impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the private lives of Dutch youth/adolescence aged 18-24. The study used a subset of data collected as part of the Towards Health & Resilience in Volatile Environments study. Participants all had self-reported childhood trauma. They reported the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Coronavirus Impact Scale and the severity of their childhood trauma on the Youth and Childhood Adversity Scale. Socioeconomic status was calculated using parental educational level and parental annual income. The current study found that the severity of childhood trauma positively affected the degree of impact the COVID-19 pandemic had on the private lives of Dutch youth/adolescence aged 18-24. Socioeconomic status, annual parental income and parental educational level did not significantly affect the degree of impact the pandemic had on the private lives of Dutch youth/adolescence. These findings are partially in line with previous research. Differences in findings could be explained by varying sample characteristics such as age and the presence of childhood trauma.Show less
