The Moderating Role of Self-Construal between Mindfulness and Cooperation in Situations of Inequality

A growing body of literature has established an association between mindfulness, prosocial behaviour, and self-construal. However, the mechanisms underlying these relationships are not yet clear. The present study aims to explore the potential moderating role of self-construal between mindfulness and prosocial behaviour in situations of inequality. Two hundred participants were recruited and completed measures of mindfulness and self-construal, as well as making decisions with strangers in an unequal prisoner's dilemma. The results of the present study did not replicate findings from previous research. There were no associations between mindfulness and cooperation, nor between cooperation and self-construal.
