The Triple Nexus of Climate Change Politicization: A longitudinal study on climate attitudes embedded within broader political outlooks of the European Public

This study examines how climate change attitudes have become embedded within broader political outlooks across the European public over time. Using data from the European Social Survey, this study utilizes a longitudinal, cross-national design to examine the levels of associations between climate change attitudes and multiple socio-economic perspectives that define broader political outlook. Multivariate regression analyses are also conducted, using an Ordinary Least Squares model (OLS), both at EU-wide levels and at a country-level case study focusing on the Netherlands. From the results, it is noticeable that some bivariate relationships are stronger than others, some even showcasing no empirical relevance. Nonetheless, further results analysis using multivariate regression OLS shows a clear increase in R² value over time, which indicates that climate change attitudes do become increasingly intertwined with broader political outlooks over time.
