De relatie tussen taalaanleg en buitenlands accent bij Chinese studenten Nederlands

The current study examined the relationship between language learning aptitude and the foreign accent of second language (L2) learner. The chosen target group consists of Chinese student who study Dutch in university. There are 20 participants involved in this study. A series of experiments has been carried to test their language learning aptitude (by means of LLAMA test) and mimicry ability, which have been shown by earlier research to have influence on the foreign accent. Additionally, their foreign accents were judged by native speakers of Dutch based on a word-read-aloud task. Although the number of participants was too small to draw any real conclusion from the attempt to link language aptitude with foreign accent, the results did show a moderate correlation found between overall language aptitude and foreign accent. Furthermore, there no correlation was found between mimicry ability and foreign accent.
