Regional Security Structures: A Comparison of Counter- Terrorism Methods of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation and the African Union
- Author
- Bilsen, Bob van
- Note
- This thesis manages to conduct an excellent analysis of the issues and questions in interest. It adopts multiple methods and provides solid evidence which clearly supports its finding and argumentations. It insightfully illustrates why China and the SCO provide a more effective and rigorous CT approach than Nigeria and the AU. This research also has some policy implications for counter-terrorism through regional frameworks. A better theoretical framework can be adopted for the exploration (keep in mind that "counter-terrorism tactics" cannot be a theoretical framework, p 16). Contributions to (security) regionalism theories could have been highlighted in the conclusion. With some innovative analysis, the thesis successfully explicated its theoretical and policy relevance in counterterrorism and IOs.
