Master thesis | History (MA)

The Noord river is located within the Dutch river delta, an area which has been subject to numerous changes, particularly since the start of the 1800’s. This thesis displays how the adjustments within the maritime landscape of the Noord river evolved throughout the nineteenth and twentieth century. The main turning point being the 1953 Watersnoodramp, that led to the formulation of the Deltaplan and the revision of the Dutch delta. Following this event the dykes of the Noord river were to be revised and eventually adjusted, affecting the inhabitants of the area and hereby causing major changes within the social structures of the Noord river dykes.
