A two-wave online study was conducted with a sample size of 350 participants. The three conditions in this study were those receiving work performance gain messages, health gain messages and control group. The results show that gain-framed messages had no significant effect on psychological detachment. In fact, the control group showed significantly higher levels of detachment than those who received gain-framed messages, which could indicate a reactance effect in which individuals resist attempts to change their behaviour. Financial stress was not a significant moderator in the message type on psychological detachment. Message involvement was also not a significant moderator of gain-framed messages on psychological detachment. These findings suggests to find alternative strategies to motivate self-employed workers to psychologically detach from work.Show less
The research presented in this thesis investigated the association between financial stress and proactive career behaviours and the association between attentional functions and proactive career...Show moreThe research presented in this thesis investigated the association between financial stress and proactive career behaviours and the association between attentional functions and proactive career behaviours among university students. 144 university students from various countries opened the online voluntary survey consisting of items regarding financial stress, attentional functions and proactive career behaviours. However, the analyses were performed with a total of 119 students (2 males, 84 females, 2 non-binary/third gender, 1 prefer not to say) due to exclusion of participants because of missing data. As unpredicted, the association between financial stress and proactive career behaviours yielded a significant positive result. In addition, the association between attentional functions and proactive career behaviours was insignificant. The insights from the current research may enrich the knowledge regarding proactive career behaviours among university students by taking into account the roles of an economic context (financial stress) and a cognitive context (attentional functions).Show less

It is part of a bigger research project that...Show moreThis study’s focus is on the effects that financial stress and academic stress have on proactive career behaviour in the university student population. It is part of a bigger research project that assesses the relationship between financial stress and proactive career behaviours, along with another series of predictors that are not the concern of this paper. University students are the target group whose highest stress factors include finances and academia, but also the population who is expected to start thinking about their future and future careers. One hundred fifty university students were recruited, and one hundred nineteen students were included in the analysis after the exclusion criteria. They were given a questionnaire where their levels of proactive career behaviour, financial stress, and academic stress were measured, as well as other variables that are not part of this study. It was hypothesized that financial stress negatively relates to proactive career behaviour in the student population, and, in turn, that academic stress negatively impacts proactive career behaviour in students. In this study, our hypotheses were not supported, with both financial stress and academic stress being unrelated to proactive career behaviours.Show less

A lot of factors contribute to this kind of behavior. The literature seems to suggest that financial stress and planning-initiative functions may have potential roles in explaining variation in levels of proactive career behaviors. This paper presents a cross-sectional study that examined the variables financial stress and planning-initiative functions as predictors of proactive career behavior. One hundred and nineteen participants between 18 to 49 years filled in a questionnaire. A multiple regression analysis was performed to test the hypotheses, which showed two significant results. In these results, it was found that planning-initiative functions are indeed positively related to proactive career behavior. Moreover, financial stress is also positively related to proactive career behavior.Show less

The...Show moreThis thesis aims to investigate the antecedents of work-life balance (WLB) crafting intentions among entrepreneurs, with a specific focus on the roles of growth intentions and prevention-focus. The study hypothesized that growth intentions would negatively predict WLB crafting intentions and that the prevention-focus would positively predict WLB crafting intentions. One hundred seventy-three entrepreneurs recruited from Prolific Academic filled out an online survey. The survey consisted of questions about demographic and business information as well as scales measuring WLB crafting intentions, growth intentions, and prevention-focus. The results of a two-level hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that contradictory to Hypothesis 1, growth intentions positively and significantly predicted WLB crafting intentions. However, prevention-focus was not found to be a significant predictor of WLB crafting intentions, failing to support Hypothesis 2. The findings of this thesis suggested that entrepreneurs who had intentions to grow their businesses had more intentions to engage in WLB crafting behaviors. Subsequently, the results revealed that prevention-focused entrepreneurs did not significantly intend to engage in WLB crafting behaviors.Show less
