Dit heb...Show moreIn deze scriptie ontsluit en onderzoek ik de briefwisseling tussen Nic Beets (Nicolaas Dz Beets) die sinds 1887 in Nederland verbleef en zijn ouders Dirk en Clara Beets in Nederlands-Indië. Dit heb ik gedaan aan de hand van de volgende vragen: 1. Wat vertelt de briefwisseling ons over de jeugd en opvoeding van Nic Beets? 2. Wat komen we middels de correspondentie te weten over het latere leven en schrijverschap van Nicolaas Beets en hoe was de verhouding tussen Nic en zijn opa? 3. Wat vertellen de brieven ons over Nederlands-Indië en de koloniale opvattingen van de familie Beets? De briefwisseling is uiterst uniek, omdat ze een schat aan informatie bevat over het dagelijks leven aan het eind van de negentiende eeuw, zowel in Nederland als in Nederlands-Indië, bezien door de ogen van twee volwassenen én een kind.Show less

De vraag die ik stelde was: Wat heeft de receptie van het proefschrift Hadewijch: Een studie over de mens en de schrijfster (1934) betekend voor doctor Marie van der Zeyde (1906-1990) en haar...Show moreDe vraag die ik stelde was: Wat heeft de receptie van het proefschrift Hadewijch: Een studie over de mens en de schrijfster (1934) betekend voor doctor Marie van der Zeyde (1906-1990) en haar wetenschappelijke carrière? Mijn conclusie is de volgende: door felle proefschriftkritieken is Van der Zeydes Hadewijch-carrière in de knop gebroken. Van der Zeyde wist zich op latere leeftijd echter te herpakken. Na haar pensionering vertaalde ze de Psalmen en de evangeliën Markus en Johannes. Daarvoor kreeg ze veel lof.Show less

Hadewijch has, by certain older scholars, been described as a hysteric - almost...Show moreThe Visions, by the thirteenth century mystical writer Hadewijch, have been subject to many studies and opinions. Hadewijch has, by certain older scholars, been described as a hysteric - almost mentally ill - woman who lost herself in her religious visions and thus lost contact with reality. Though many scholars conveyed their praise for Hadewijch’s beautiful use of language in more recent years - a use of language that shows Hadewijch had knowledge of the contemporary literary climate including mystic themes and conventions - these descriptions, along with some interesting parallels between the structure of the Visions and psychotic experiences, have sparked an interest in a new way of analyzing the texts. In this thesis, the Visions will be analyzed from a new perspective. With a psycho-diagnostic approach on the Visions, Hadewijch’s literary texts will be compared to a modern-day psychotic experience after making a “list of characteristics” based on literature about psychosis. When asking how the psycho-diagnostic approach can add to the analysis of the Visions, it is found that the comparison between the Visions and the “list of characteristics” reveals that the Visions show systematic differences and similarities with the psychotic experience, which may be further prove for the theory that Hadewijchs Visions were written based on their own characteristics. This also may be further prove for the theory that Hadewijch had a deep knowledge of the literary climate in her time and that her visionary reports follow the guidelines of that literary climate.Show less

Het onderzoek bevindt zich op het snijvlak van moderne Nederlandse letterkunde en postcolonial studies en sluit aan bij contemporaine maatschappelijke thema's uit de postkoloniale/multiculturele samenleving en actueel onderzoek naar de Surinaams-Nederlandse literatuur.Show less
