Based on the experiences of all women NGOs adopted into the registry, this research concludes that the foreign agents label has had a mixed impact on the women’s NGOs, however, most consequences are negative. As a result, the West implemented sanctions towards Russia, which then provoked Russia to impose counter-measures against the Western pressure, resulting in a downward spiral where both parties keep expanding and extending their measures, until the day of today. With this, the question arises on whether the sanctions imposed by the EU have been successful in fulfilling the intended objectives of their imposed sanction? If not, then what were the reasons? Has Russia, for example, been able to cushion the Western sanctions in an effective way, that the sanctions have not succeeded in tipping the scale of the cost-benefit calculations for Russia to comply with the criteria and objectives set by the EU? Or have there been other reasons, such as a reorientation to China, also known as the “Pivot to the East”? The research of this thesis focuses on the impact and effectiveness of the EU sanctions, Russia's reponse to the sanctions, and which factors have played a role in the overall impact and effectiveness of the EU sanctions.Show less

Elke taal kent zijn eigen variaties en tradities als het op schelden aankomt. De Russische taal is daar geen uitzondering op. De hele verzameling van Russische scheldwoorden wordt ook wel Russkij mat genoemd. De Russische taalwetenschapper Levin maakte een indeling van Russische scheldwoorden in categorieën. De verschillende categorieën staan voor een bepaalde manier van gebruik die allemaal een andere functie hebben. Aan de hand van drie Russische scheldwoorden is er gezocht naar gevallen van Russkij mat in het corpus van de Russische taal. Al deze gevallen heeft de onderzoeker ingedeeld in de categorieën van Levin. Door dit te doen, is een overzicht gecreëerd van de functies van scheldwoorden, verdeeld tussen mannen en vrouwen. Het onderzoek biedt een goede basis voor vervolgonderzoek.Show less

In dit onderzoek zal hier op...Show moreWat is het verschil tussen radost’ en sčast’e? Het lijkt vanzelfsprekend dat het een ‘vreugde’ is en het andere ‘geluk’. Maar waar zit het verschil nou precies in? In dit onderzoek zal hier op verschillende manieren naar gekeken worden. In de literatuurstudie wordt er naar meerdere artikelen gekeken, die de twee woorden behandelen. Uit deze literatuurstudie blijkt dat het verschil zit in het feit dat radost’ een gevoel is en sčast’e een staat. Dit verschil bestaat uit verschillen in de componenten van de duur, de intensiteit en de concreetheid van het gevoel. Daarnaast zou volgens de literatuurstudie sčast’e over een apart component beschikken, namelijk een connectie met sud’ba. Om dit te testen werd een corpusonderzoek gehouden: 50 voorbeelden van ieder gevoel worden geanalyseerd op de componenten. Hieruit blijkt dat de duur en intensiteit niet van veel belang zijn. Hier wordt ook aangetoond dat hoewel sčast’e zeker een connectie heeft met sud’ba, is het mogelijk om te zeggen dat radost’ in enkele mate dit component ook bevat. Vervolgens zijn er gesprekken met moedertaalsprekers van het Russisch gehouden als tweede test. Hieruit is echter gebleken dat het verschil tussen radost’ en sčast’e voor moedertaalsprekers toch zit in de duur en intensiteit van de gevoelens: radost’ is van kortere duur, sčast’e is van langere duur en is een sterker gevoel. Hieruit blijkt dus toch dat radost’ een gevoel van kortere duur is en dat sčast’e een staat is, waar de connectie met sud’ba duidelijker is.Show less

Those can be classified as government-orientated civil society; media control and discrediting groups, and; vague legal grounds. This also affects the Anti-corruption Foundation (FBK) of Alexey Navalny. To stay active within the tightened public space, FBK is using different strategies in reaction to continue their fight against corruption. Those strategies can be seen in a selection in general in the use of internet campaigning; going to the European Court of Human Rights; smart voting; the populist strategy; connecting high officials with corruption; mass demonstrations, and; active use social media.Show less

Russia's seemingly endless natural resources and an accompanying rise in oil prices only go so far in its development. However, to gain relevance on the world stage beyond the constant military flexing and being an energy appendage to the upper echelon industrialised countries, it needs to produce marketable technologies and secure a spot among the greatest economies. At the end of the first decade a new paradigm in the way we transact information found prominence in the minds of the tech savvy, which turned into the explosive development of the Blockchain technology. This potentially revolutionary new technology has the characteristics to alter the social fabric in which old power structures become obsolete, but at the same time provide a golden opportunity for the relative young and unbound Russian IT sector to thrive and leave a global mark. The new generation technocrats plead for full scale adoption, regulation and development of this technology, but their older and politically more powerful Soviet rooted counter parts plead against the dangers of this shift in dynamics. In this work I looked at what the blockchain technology means for Russia and how the Russian authorities took a stance in adapting the technology.Show less

Vanuit diverse hoeken wordt het hedendaagse fenomeen bestudeerd, waaruit blijkt dat landelijke en regionale contexten vaak een cruciale rol spelen. Dat geldt net zo zeer voor Rusland, dat opgedeeld is in 85 federale subjecten. Elk van die subjecten wordt bestuurd door een gouverneur, die de hoogste positie bekleedt binnen de regionale uitvoerende macht. Over deze groep politici en haar impact op regionale politiek is veel wetenschappelijke literatuur gepubliceerd. Gouverneurs zijn de gezichten van de regio’s, een van de redenen dat zij op sociale media soms gevolgd worden door wel honderdduizenden mediagebruikers. Hun rol binnen de regionale politiek is een veelbesproken thema, maar wat zegt het sociale mediagebruik van deze gouverneurs eigenlijk over Ruslands regionale politiek? Dat is de onderzoeksvraag voor deze studie. Daarbij is gelet op verschillende groepen gouverneurs: leiders van republieken tegenover andere regio’s, insiders tegenover outsiders, en gouverneurs van verschillende generaties. De data van dit onderzoek wijzen uit dat voor de gouverneurs van republieken en de generatieverschillen de meest heldere karakteristieken in sociale mediagebruik te onderscheiden zijn. Het gebruik onthult in zekere zin aspecten van de regionale politiek en van verhoudingen tussen gouverneurs en Moskou.Show less

In Russian there is a tendency that consonants which are followed by a hard sign and a soft vowel are being pronounced hard again, despite the beforementioned grammars stating otherwise. By taking interviews with Russian people and analysing their pronunciation this research tests and challenges the existing grammars.Show less

Het onderzoek bouwt voort op de theorieën van Zel’dovič (2012) en...Show moreDeze scriptie is een kwalitatief corpusonderzoek naar de invariante betekenis van de korte vorm van adjectieven in het Russisch. Het onderzoek bouwt voort op de theorieën van Zel’dovič (2012) en Van Helden (2017), waarin wordt gesteld dat de korte vorm gebruikt wordt om het aantal voor te stellen situaties te reduceren. In dit onderzoek wordt de betekenis van de korte vorm onderzocht aan de hand van het Russisch Nationaal Corpus door tekstfragmenten te vergelijken waarin een adjectief in dezelfde zinsconstructie in zowel de lange vorm als de korte vorm voorkomt. Er worden drie zinsconstructies bekeken met elk 10 adjectieven; per adjectiefpaar wordt een betekenisverschil tussen de lange en de korte vorm geduid. De korte vorm lijkt in deze constructies consequent gebruikt te worden om te focussen op een specifieke situatie, terwijl de lang vorm juist meerdere mogelijke situaties openhoudt. Het onderzoek ondersteunt hiermee de theorieën van Zel’dovič en Van Helden.Show less

Ook zijn naamgenoot Fëdor Tjutčev schreef dat “het hovaardige oog van de westerling blind is voor het geheime licht dat uit het karige Russische landschap straalt.” Toch was de overzichtstentoonstelling van de Russische landschapsschilderkunst in 2003-2004 in Groningen een groot succes. Ook de pers was doorgaans lovend over de toen voor het westen nog onbekende schilderijen. In de westerse wereld werd de Russische landschapskunst eerder decennialang opzijgeschoven. Hoe werd de Russische landschapsschilderkunst op de tentoonstelling Het Russische Landschap ontvangen in Nederland? Om deze vraag te beantwoorden is in de literatuurstudie een historisch overzicht geïntegreerd en wordt toegelicht hoe de tentoonstelling tot stand is gekomen. Na dit historische overzicht wordt gedemonstreerd op welke manieren de Russische landschapsschilderkunst kan worden benaderd: zowel apolitieke natuurervaringen als chauvinistisch Russische trots kunnen door de werken bij de kijker worden opgewekt. Dit laatste kan worden bereikt door zowel modderige landwegen als weelderige bossen. Er wordt hier ook ingegaan op de uitlatingen van Dostoevskij en Tjutčev over het buitenlandse onbegrip. De literatuurstudie wordt afgesloten met een artikel van Ellen Rutten, waarin wordt opgemerkt dat in Groningen mensen vooral afkwamen op de Russische Ziel. Om deze laatste bewering te testen is een kwantitatief onderzoek opgesteld. De expositie werd doorverkocht aan the National Gallery, en dus kon zowel de Engelse als Nederlandse media-aandacht worden onderzocht. Het extra aantal bronnen uit Engeland dat hierdoor is toegevoegd maakt de percentages een stuk betrouwbaarder en minder afhankelijk van toeval. In elke gevonden relevante bron is gezocht naar een veertiental kenmerken. Aan de hand hiervan kan worden afgeleid op welke manier het westen de Russische landschapskunst heeft binnengehaald. Een van de grootste ontdekkingen in het kwantitatieve onderzoek was het verschil tussen de Nederlandse en Engelse krantenartikelen, die uitgebreid worden toegelicht. Verder toont dit werkstuk aan dat in Nederland vele bronnen meegingen in de Russische Ziel, maar ook andere kenmerken erg vaak werden genoemd. Het landschap werd in Groningen en Nederland zowel intrinsiek als nationaal geïnterpreteerd, en deze twee benaderingen blijken elkaar ook niet uit te sluiten.Show less
