This will include a background on the purpose of the statue and its relationship to the American Museum of Natural History, the history behind the ownership of the statue and the information obtained and used by the City of New York on how to proceed with the statue. I will also examine the possible reasoning behind why it is being moved to the Roosevelt Presidential Library located in North Dakota instead of staying in storage, as well as addressing the racial issues associated with this statue and how they are being acknowledged. In closing, I will focus on how major institutions handled the statue and how the removal/relocation may be treated in its new location using the example of VR technology being used at the J. Sims pedestal.Show less

This has been done by...Show moreThis thesis is a study on the provision and management of urban green space through the lens of the structure and actors which influence the often socially unequal outcomes. This has been done by taking Shanghai and New York as case studies using the paired comparison case study method. It has been found that, while there are very different variables in play between the two cities, the outcome of the interaction between structure and actors are oftentimes similar. In addition, the changing of the structures over time, while not analogous, has certainly moved in the same direction. Using urban green space provision as a post-political facade for underlying motives of growth is becoming more common, denying the average citizen a voice in the matter. Environmental gentrification is a real problem which has existed since the start of modern urban green space provision, and an effective solution has yet to be found.Show less

In deze scriptie wil ik laten zien hoe Kaufmans film Synecdoche - New York, die zich richt op de verwikkeling van de postmoderne notie van het simulacrum en de existentieel modernistische notie van...Show moreIn deze scriptie wil ik laten zien hoe Kaufmans film Synecdoche - New York, die zich richt op de verwikkeling van de postmoderne notie van het simulacrum en de existentieel modernistische notie van individuatie, een spanningsveld blootlegt waarin het subjectiviteitsbegrip centraal komt te staan. Vanuit de manier waarop film en filosofie samenwerken om deze verwikkeling te adresseren, wil ik uiteindelijk wijzen op een tekortkoming in het film-theoretisch debat die implicaties heeft voor het maatschappelijk discours over individuatie in een beeld/mediacultuur. Door te laten zien dat Synecdoche in gaat op het individuatieproces binnen een steeds verder gesimuleerde wereld beargumenteer ik dat de film uitnodigt het vraagstuk van het subject te hernemen.Show less
