Show less

Show less

However, along with the liberalization of the Chinese market economy, especially after China’s entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO), agricultural producers were faced with increasing foreign competition as well as ceasing product protection. One question that arises is whether the currency undervaluation enabled the agricultural producers to maintain their competitiveness despite their abrupt confrontation with market exposure. Another question that arises is whether the currency undervaluation enabled the agricultural producers’ to increase their outputs, in light of the opportunities engendered by market liberalization. In other words, in this thesis, I will examine the extent to which agricultural producers benefited from the renminbi undervaluation during the turn of the 21st century.Show less

Since the handover of sovereignty, Hong Kong is no longer part of the British Empire, but instead is part of China. Great Britain influenced Hong Kong during the colonial period, and the film depicts that as different from Mainland China.Show less

Show less

However, in Cantonese this suffix is rarely used. This paper seeks to explain the discrepancy between these two Sinitic languages in the usage of this suffix. In the existing literature this discrepancy is often attributed to homophony: since homophony isn't as frequent in Cantonese as in Mandarin, the suffix -zi isn't necessary. However, in this paper I argue that homophony is not only a problem in Mandarin, but in Cantonese as well. Therefore both languages require a different method of disambiguation. In Mandarin this is done by affixation, of which the suffix -zi is one example, and in Cantonese this is done by an elaborate system of classifiers. These different methods of disambiguation explain the discrepancy in the usage of -zi.Show less

Generally speaking, previous research on this topic did not mention the creation of a whole new style of perspective. Therefore, this study aims to find the evidence of the invention of Sino-Western perspective techniques applied in city scape paintings from the Qianlong court. Moreover, the creation of this new style could be related to the Emperor's cultural and political agenda. In the first chapters, the Western and Chinese techniques of perspective will be discussed. Furthermore, the Qianlong emperor's political and cultural agenda will be discussed as well. This study will be concluded with a chapter on Sino-Western perspective in Chinese pictorial art using various case studies. In this study, the connection between Qianlong's political and cultural agenda will be connected with the invention of the Sino-Western perspective techniques.Show less
