In deze studie wordt er ook gekeken of het geslacht nog van invloed is op deze relatie. De hypotheses voor dit onderzoek waren dat er een positieve relatie is tussen de support van de vader en het zelfbeeld van het kind en daarnaast ook dat de relatie sterker is bij jongens vergeleken met meisjes. Dit onderzoek bestond uit 80 participanten. De adolescenten werden gevraagd om van tevoren een vragenlijst in te vullen over het zelfbeeld, hier kwam een bepaalde score uit wat aantoonde hoe positief het zelfbeeld was. Daarnaast werd er op de onderzoeksdag zelf na de Reminiscence-taak gevraagd aan de adolescenten om een vragenlijst in te vullen waarin werd gemeten hoeveel support zij ervaarde van de ouders en in het geval van dit onderzoek de vader. De resultaten van regressieanalyse die zijn uitgevoerd lieten ons zien dat de support van vader geen positieve relatie had met het zelfbeeld van het kind. De resultaten suggereren wel een verschil in de relatie tussen verschillende geslachten. De resultaten lieten ons zien dat hoe hoger de support van de vader was, hoe lager het zelfbeeld van de dochter was.Show less

Om deze relatie beter te begrijpen is het van belang om hier meer te weten over te komen en eventuele meespelende factoren. In het cross-sectionele onderzoek genaamd RE-PAIR heb ik gekeken naar gezinnen met gezonde of depressieve adolescenten (N=115, 67.8% meisjes). Hierbij deed ik onderzoek naar de modererende factor hechting op de relatie tussen kritiek vanuit de ouders en depressieve symptomen. Ouderlijke kritiek was positief geassocieerd met depressieve symptomen bij adolescenten, maar hechting versterkt deze relatie niet. Deze bevindingen bevestigen de eerder gevonden resultaten tussen de kritiek die ouders geven en symptomen bij adolescenten die op een depressie duiden. Het is in de toekomst van belang om ook meer te kijken naar de richting van het causale verband tussen ouderlijke kritiek en depressie bij adolescenten.Show less

Previous research suggests that positive modelling which is a form of observational learning can form positive inhibitory associations that can counter the effects of fear learning. This meta-analysis aimed to synthesize the empirical studies on the influence of positive modelling on social fear learning in infants and toddlers between 0-3 ages. Three procedures were identified as the effects of positive modelling, namely fear reversal, fear prevention and fear reduction. OVID (Medline), EBSCO and PsychInfo databases were searched and a total of 1715 studies were found of which 15 were included in the final analysis. A meta-analysis was performed for two outcome variable categories, affect and approach/avoidance. Meta-analysis results showed that positive modelling has a significant fear reduction effect for affect variables with 0.55 effect size and for approach/avoidance variables with 0.64 effect size. Two studies showed support for the fear prevention effect of positive modelling, whereas none of the studies matched the criteria for fear reversal effect. To conclude, responsiveness of infants and toddlers to positive modelling can be seen as an inspiration for developing interventions that could be implemented in the early stages of life for fear/anxiety related problems.Show less

One of these pathways is verbal threat information...Show moreRachman’s three-pathway theory of fear acquisition specifies that there are three distinct methods through which fear can be acquired. One of these pathways is verbal threat information transmission. The first aim of this study was to determine whether parental verbal transmission mediates the association between parental fear of Covid-19 and child fear of Covid-19. The secondary aim was to determine whether parent gender moderates the association between parent and child fear of Covid-19. The sample consisted of 215 children (59.3% girls, M(age) = 14.25) and 215 parents (74.1% mothers, M(mother age) = 47.33, M(father age) = 49.05). Participants living in South Holland filled out an online survey about fear of Covid-19, verbal threat transmission in relation to their children and temperamental anxiety. Against expectations, we found that parental verbal threat transmission did not mediate the association between parent and child fear of Covid-19. Parent gender was not found to moderate the association between parent and child fear of Covid-19. Both covariates included in the moderation model were found to be non-significant. Results are discussed with reference to current fear learning literature, both in the context of Covid-19 and beyond. It is concluded that the findings of this study contribute to a quickly growing pool of research that aims to understand factors reliably associated with child fear of Covid-19.Show less
