Dandre, Barrón). Partially, this situation is rooted in the colonial past of the country, where Spanish colonizers conducted discriminative policies towards indigenous society, placing them at the bottoms of the hierarchical pyramid (Barron). Nevertheless, many factors that are present in today’s Peru seem to facilitate indigenous social exclusion in the fields of education and political participation. Modern researchers recently developed an idea of the involvement of various cultural institutions in the state’s programs that aim to reduce social exclusion, which seems to be more than ever relevant (Sandell, Santos, Vonk). One of the currently developed ideas is the facilitation of social inclusion of minorities through the museum. However, unlike in political and economic spheres, cultural programs in that regard are very recent and there is a strong need for clarification to what extent it would be possible to efficiently involve them in a reduction of social exclusion in society. In relation to Peru, it could be more than ever relevant to look at ways of cooperation between museums and indigenous that could have the potential to benefit the process of indigenous inclusion in the community.Show less

English-Only movements have emerged, also known as Official English Movements. Such movements try to establish English as the only official language and also believe that the protection of English is necessary, due to the arrival of a large number of immigrants with other first languages. The U.S. English organization says that it is not against people who speak other languages, but is against the idea of the government working in other languages, because it allegedly divides the country. At the moment, Donald Trump has also been shaping up as a fierce supporter of the English-Only Movement. This study focuses on the impact of English-Only movements on attitudes towards Spanish, given that the Spanish-speaking population forms an increasingly important group in the US, both in economic and political terms. There are many social factors that influence attitudes towards languages. The question is to what extent President Donald Trump and the English-Only Movements contribute to these attitudes regarding the Spanish language and the corresponding alleged discrimination. This study analyzes whether the English-Only Movements negatively influence the perceived status of Spanish.Show less

However, Cuba is still fighting its way out of a difficult position formed by a fascinating history, filled with political unrest and economic sanctions placed by the United States (U.S.). The current state of their cooperation has gradually been changing in the past couple of years, and a drastic overhaul of the political state is approaching. This changing political and economic environment marks the necessity of change that is eagerly awaited by Cubans who for many years have been deprived of the possibilities that capitalism could offer.Show less

In this thesis it has been investigated when the international involvement is triggered and whether or not the corruption which results in impunity is less when the international community is more involved in the case. A diferatation is made between bilateral involvement and that of the whole international community (via the United Nations for example) and the focus lies on the latter. As a case study the disappearance of 43 students is taken.Show less

Show less
