The Manual is also the codified version of Dutch Archivistiek, and to some extent it reflects European archival practices, especially France and Germany. Although the Manual has never been translated into Indonesian, its influence on Indonesian archival practices is accepted, understood and developed by Indonesian archivists within their own discourse and context. The thesis describes the influence on the laws (Archief wet 1918, Archief ordonnantie 1941, Pokok-Pokok Kearsipan 1971 and Kearsipan 2009), the standards (Pengelolaan Arsip Statis 2004, Pedoman Penyusunan Sarana Bantu Penemuan Kembali Arsip Statis 2011 and Standar Deskripsi Arsip Statis 2015) and writings through the main rules of the Manual such as concept of archives, provenance, original order, arrangement and description.Show less

Using a postmodern analysis, this thesis is both a document study and case study that aims to inform, and help archivists and other cultural heritage specialists to contextualise themselves and their new digital environments. First, I establish why postmodernity is important to the archival profession by outlining its relevance to knowledge, technology, and the economy. I then describe Virtual Reality (VR) and the newly released and commercially available Head Mounted Display units (HMDs). This is followed by my case descriptions of Virtual Reality developers and developments, and a discussion of examples of VR’s current use in cultural heritage sites. I then move on to a discussion of archiving Virtual Reality. My thesis shows that Virtual Reality is no longer a promise, or something to work towards, but that it is presently here. The audio/visual illusion created by the currently available Virtual Reality hardware and software, has serious potential in the realm of cultural heritage learning. And this thesis argues towards an interdisciplinary method of creating cultural heritage content, with archivists, librarians, and museum curators teaming up with information technology and VR specialists to create, and store, their work. It also studies the relevance of context of the map collection originating from the topografische dienst from the librarian point of view. Context is important not only for archivists and librarians to arrange and describe the maps of the topografische dienst but also for map users, for instance, historians who need to analyze maps for research purposes. This research reveals two contexts to curate the maps from the topografische diensts: a social and institutional context.Show less

The research findings show that each of these advisors, based on their personal records, had different understandings on their political point of view on the native and religious affairs. The different perspectives and voices of the advisors found in their personal collection demonstrate their real attitude in conducting their tasks.Show less

This has ultimately led to an alteration regarding how users are targeted and specific ways that technology has changed accessibility to archival documents. Through the study of users, archival scholars have been able to make advancements towards improving the information seeking processes of users. The research will outline a short history of user studies and the ways access has been developed within archival repositories. The investigation will then reflect on a small case study that can determine if information seeking user studies have a place within the archival literature and how this can lead to better facilitation between users and archivists.Show less
