On...Show moreIn this thesis, Memories of Murder (2003), The Host (2006) and Parasite (2019), three films by Korean writer/director Bong Joon-ho, are evaluated with the concept of 'divided reception' in mind. On the one hand, the films are undoubtedly Korean in character since they narratively deal with specific situations lifted from both from Korea's past and present. On the other hand, the films cross their national boundaries due to the fact that Bong highly relies on the cinematic language born in Hollywood. As a result, Bong's works are accessible to audiences all over the world, which in turn solidifies his position as a renowned figure within world cinema.Show less
