Analyzing the stories requested of the students, the author evidences the components of the dynamics of self-representation, while describing essential elements of the context in which this phenomenon occurs: center-periphery, inclusion-exclusion, Latin America as Edenic vision and Holland as a Desired destination. In this sense, an important contribution is the description of the Netherlands and its functioning as a recipient country based on a critical interpretation of the stories of the interviewees. The image that emerges reveals the Dutch Academy as a space different from the one originally destined from the migrant imaginary. In the work on the dynamics of adaptation, it has also investigated the role played by the social spaces (e.g. student associations) of whose role and contribution in the construction of the feeling of community this work leaves record. Important is the fact that the student's reflection combines a topic of current debate -as the presence of international students- and a little-studied area: that of their cultural practices and their peculiar dynamics in the course of their adaptation process. At the same time, it records the way in which these processes, which take place in the West, generate modifications in the way of conceiving, seeing or projecting for the future of the students upon their return to Latin America. An innovative thesis not only in the subject but in the original application of the theoretical body and above all in the declared intention to participate, from the Academy, in the social debate.Show less

Show less

It is investigated what meanings these memories, described by the narrator in the novel, have within a collective memory. The first chapter focuses on the contextualization of the period of the dirty war and the cases of impunity and atrocities. In this tesis El olvido que seremos is studied as an example of a testimony denouncing impunity and the crimes committed during the 70s and 80s. It also makes a suggestion towards the comparison between the novel as a Testimonio for denouncing atrocities and impunity in the Colombian society and today’s Colombian journalism.Show less

A new conceptual framework is elaborated to brings together landscape and mobility as perspectives that are able to engage in a reciprocal relationship; this framework is called the dialectics of the road. The three films occupy different locations in the landscape and mobility spectrum. By using the dialectics of the road as an instrument for cultural analysis, they can be considered in the same analysis, and the relationship between the journey and the spaces through which is travelled can be studied comparatively. When driving a car it is impossible to simultaneously look ahead, watch the scenery and occasionally check the rear-view mirror; in a similar way the landscape and mobility perspective are in a constant state of alternation during the road movie journey. The framework that has been elaborated in this thesis gives the viewer the ability to focus on the road ahead while keeping track of their position on the road and their relationship to the surroundings. This way the stereotypical forward orientation of the road movie can be complemented by different contexts and other logics, opening up the road for new interpretations and establishing the travelled space as a crossroads of perspectives.Show less

Show less

Show less
