It does so through an analysis of the 21st century in television and film, in order to outline gendered tropes regularly found in these media. This is followed by a discourse analysis of three case studies: Tomb Raider (2013), Horizon Zero Dawn (2017) and The Last of Us: Part II (2020).Show less

Starting with Gamergate as a boiling point that affected the 2016 Ghostbusters remake, which resisted toxic fans explicitly. As well as analysing the Star Wars sequel trilogy, in particular The Last Jedi and Rise of Skywalker. Showing how coordinated attacks influenced the trilogy whilst it was being made.Show less

What is traumatic experience and how can it be visually represented by the documentary film? What kind of cinematic techniques are used by the contemporary documentary filmmakers to visually represent the abnormal nature of the traumatic experience? Throughout my research I orientate on the contemporary documentary films that unite documentary and fictional cinematic techniques in order to represent the non-linear, abnormal, fragmented nature of the traumatic experience in youth. Through the analysis of three case study films the thesis aims to show how the hybridization of documentary and non-documentary cinematic techniques in contemporary documentary film medium contribute in the authentic cinematic representation of traumatic experience.Show less
