Op dat moment vindt er een terugval plaats, ook wel een setback genoemd. Na het ervaren van een setback wordt het moeilijker een gedragsdoel vol te houden. Deze studie onderzoekt waarom dit moeilijk wordt door de relatie tussen de ervaren setbacks tijdens het volgen van een dieet en maintenance self-efficacy te analyseren, met subjectief succes als mogelijke mediator. Met een online vragenlijst (N= 74) zijn de ervaren setbacks, maintenance self-efficacy en subjectief succes uitgevraagd. De vragenlijst had een cross-sectioneel, between-subjects design. De antwoorden op de vragenlijst zijn geanalyseerd met lineaire regressieanalyses en met een mediatie analyse. De resultaten lieten een significante negatieve relatie zien tussen de ervaren setbacks en maintenance self-efficacy. De relatie tussen de ervaren setbacks en subjectief succes was significant negatief, maar de relatie tussen subjectief succes en maintenance self-efficacy was niet significant. Echter, de resultaten lieten zien dat de ervaren setbacks weldegelijk negatief gerelateerd waren aan maintenance self-efficacy, en dat subjectief succes een negatieve mediërende rol in deze relatie kan hebben. Samengevat, de resultaten suggereren dat de ervaren setbacks kunnen zorgen voor een afname in maintenance self-efficacy en subjectief succes, wat weer zou kunnen leiden tot een toename in het ervaren van setbacks. Deze resultaten hebben gezorgd voor nieuwe inzichten, maar meer onderzoek is nodig naar andere mediërende factoren zoals recovery self-efficacy om het setback effect beter te kunnen begrijpen.Show less

Although there have been many different tasks to measure people’s interoceptive ability, only recently the parameters involved have been better understood and complemented through the development of the Heart Rate Discrimination Task (HRD(T)). The present research focuses on whether subjective beliefs about interoceptive abilities are related to interoceptive bias and/or precision (as measured with HRD-task). Additionally, this thesis investigates whether these beliefs moderate bias or precision in individuals with anxiety symptoms or certain exercise habits. Results of the HRDT, introduced by Legrand, are analysed to see if they are replicated in the current study. In a sample of n=69, group-level bias and slope estimates were similar within our sample and in that of Legrand’s research. In addition, four hypotheses were tested of which no Null Hypotheses could be rejected. Interoceptive accuracy was put in relation to interoceptive awareness (measured by the MAIA-II), anxiety (DASS-II) and exercise habits. Statistical Analyses showed no clear relations leading to uncertainty regarding the impact of a person’s subjective belief about their interoception on their objectively measured accuracy. Furthermore, only 22 of the sample showed moderate to extremely severe anxiety, this group did not moderate the relation between MAIA-II and HRD and was also not influenced by exercise. Exploratory analysis showed a correlation of the MAIA subscale “Not Worrying” with anxiety as well as “Attention Regulation” with exercise habits. These results call for further research regarding time distance between subjective interoceptive awareness (IA) and objective accuracy during a task. Similar procedures should be conducted using larger sample sizes, ideally from clinically screened populations, as part of a more focused study to avoid confounding variables such as fatigue and noise distraction. At this current time no further conclusions can be drawn regarding IA and task influence as well as the influence of anxiety and exercise on it though limitations as well as implications are discussed.Show less

Suicide is a self-destructive behaviour as it is a direct attack and the involvement of the self is not investigated. Therefore, it is of interest to investigate this. Paranoia stems from an excess of mistrust and can disrupt connections between people. Previous research on the connection between paranoid thinking, social connectedness and suicidal ideation suggests that social connectedness is important for trust and lower levels of social connectedness could be associated with the development of suicidality. Objective: This study aims to investigate the relationship between social connectedness and suicidal ideation and the influence of paranoid thinking on this relationship. Method: This cross-sectional study included 132 participants of which 107 participants were used in the analysis. The data was analysed using a Pearson correlation and a hierarchical regression analysis in IBM SPSS 27 using the Social Connectedness Scale-Revised, the Revised Green et al. Paranoid Thoughts Scale and the Suicidal Ideation Attribute Scale. Results: Our analysis showed a negative relationship between social connectedness and suicidal ideation with significant interaction with paranoid thinking. Both of these findings supported our hypotheses. Which was consistent with previous research. Conclusion: This study was inclusive and recruited enough participants for a strong analysis, however, there was a possibility of sampling bias and lack of generalizability. These findings indicate the importance of looking into these factors in more depth and their influence on mental health outcomes.Show less
