More specifically, it will answer the following research question: how have the oppressive structures of neoliberalism under the Bolsonaro regime affected teachers' capabilities in Curitiba, Brazil? The disseratation explores the question through the framework of neoliberalism, the commodification of education and knowledge on the one hand and transformative education on the other. The goal is to identify and analyse the impact of Bolsonaro's neoliberal policies on teachers' experiences in the classroom and society. The research is based on six, qualitative, semi-structured interviews with six teachers in Curitiba. The analysis indicates that teachers find it increasingly difficult to realise their ideological aspirations towards transformative education within the framework of Bolsonaro's neoliberal policies. Based on the data, the Bolsonaro regime's neoliberal educational policies that have led further commodification of education and knowledge which deteriorate teachers' professional status, working conditions, support and pedagogical liberty. Through critical premises, this research engages in the ongoing political debate on the commodification of education.Show less

Firstly a theoretical background is presented, in order to identify the relevant theories and concepts needed to understand organ markets. A brief overview of the two markets to be compared is also given. This background serves to support the central research question: Who are the relevant actors in the medical and muti markets for organs in South Africa and how do the respective actors interact and how do these interactions flow? A methodology for answering the above question is also presented. The method used in this bachelor thesis consisted of a review of the relevant literature and media sources in order to build an overview of actors in each market. These overviews are then used to construct actor network diagrams for each of the markets. The overviews and diagrams are then discussed. The study has shown that the markets are indeed comparable, and that they share a similar flow of organs. However, the muti market is a decentralized one with a strong linear flow from the source person to the recipient. The medical market on the other hand was found to be a distributed network, with organs and interactions flowing between and through a number of actors rather than from one side to another.Show less

A one-cures-all solution for this diverse problem is yet to be found, if ever. Declining wildlife populations and nature can be countered when they are being protected; however, without the right incentive, this is virtually impossible. Finding the right solutions for the protection and preservation of nature in Southeast Asia is challenging and will take a holistic approach. This thesis aims to explore whether the domestication of flora and fauna can serve as a solution for protecting nature, while simultaneously producing economic benefits for the local communities. The commodification of nature is picking up pace in Southeast Asia and is turning nature into a commodity that is being sold in the markets of Southeast Asia. This thesis will conduct three case studies on the domestication of flora and fauna to research how each case can contribute to protecting nature in Southeast Asia, which are: (1) the Asian Arowana, (2) Agarwood (Aquilaria genus), and (3) payment for environmental services.Show less
