It uses the attack of John Brown on Harpers Ferry in 1859 as a casestudy and takes into account the opinion of Northerners on this incident described in two newspapers, The Liberator and The New York Herald. The Union might not be as united on slavery as is suggested in the literature up until this point in time.Show less
