Attributes that either support or obstruct inclusion are brought forward by sports policies and programs, the participants themselves, and literature research. While the research has given directly observable examples and tools of how inclusive practices in sports can be enabled, it has also shed light on indirect and structural issues that somehow impact sports experiences: general participation in the deaf or hearing world; the sense of belonging one has in each; the ability of sign language as an influencing and communicative tool; and the interaction or lack thereof with other deaf or hard of hearing people. Thus, a distinction is made between physical participation and social participation in team sports, where each pertains to a different side of what it means to achieve inclusion.Show less

This research is a single-case analysis with a qualitative approach. Thirteen in-depth semi-structured interviews were conducted, eight with minority trainees and five with recruiters. The results demonstrate that all of the before-mentioned concepts have a positive effect on the retention rates of minority trainees. However, the ideology of meritocracy and the opposition towards bureaucracy threaten the positive influence that diversity recruitment has on retention rates of minorities. These outcomes are both of scientific and societal relevance. Furthermore, the study includes recommendations for future research and policy recommendations for ProRail.Show less

However, Leiden University has predominantly used an individualistic framework in keeping with the medical model of disabilities. Any changes or aims for the university usually occur also within the individualistic framework. Further, a possible culture of constructivism at LIACS aligns to the individualistic framing of LU to further put the blame and burden of studying with dyslexia onto the individuals with it. Although studying with a disability like dyslexia at LU isa centralised system and has many great experts working on it, there is an absence of knowledge on and education about studying with a disability and dyslexia in staff and students. This might have led to dyslexia primarily being dealt with using extra-time adjustments. A strategy of avoidance is highlighted as a way some students at LIACS deal with the barriers of studying with dyslexia. Overwhelmingly, even if some parts of LU wish for change towards the social model or beyond model of disability, LU currently operates with a medical model of disability in practice. Until active steps are taken to move past the medical model of disability at the university, it will be difficult to see what advantages might lie beyond.Show less

Diversity is a complicated and nebulous term. Within the framework of the wider academic discourse about why and how to diversify institutional archives, this thesis focuses on BBC’s The Listening Project (TLP) in the context of the oral history movement. It analyses TLP’s aims, methods and the extent to which it can provide insights into increasing diversity in institutional archives.Show less

Show less

The question why female artists are still excluded from the master narrative of Art History is researched through the actors who were involved in the formation of the canon of Surrealism and in the writing of Art History. The Surrealist art scene in 1930s and 1940s New York is the main topic of this research, together with the question of rereading, differencing or rejecting the canon and the move towards an inclusive Art History anno 2018.Show less

Show less
