Er wordt onderzocht op welke manieren dagbladen mannelijke en vrouwelijke politici omschrijven en of er een verschil geconstateerd kan worden tussen die omschrijvingen. Daarbij wordt uitgegaan van de cognitief linguïstische theorie dat de culturele modellen die het gedachtegoed over een bepaald onderwerp binnen een bepaalde cultuur structureren terug te zien zijn in het taalgebruik van de mensen die deel uitmaken van die cultuur.Show less

Laws dating back prior to colonial era still punish expression. Identity politics is a growing concern. Widespread government interference in the media poses issues of bias and subjective reporting. Judicial and police abuse of citizens is worsening the situation for citizens wanting justice. Freedom of speech and expression is clearly under threat from a variety of internal issues which leads to question the democratic future of India.Show less

China on the other hand, has been one of the fastest rising economies during these same decades. China is one of the biggest markets for Hollywood to gain more exposure and income. However, the Chinese government has been known to influence society through the use of censorship. To research how Hollywood film studios cater towards the strict censorship laws of the CCP various (scholarly) sources media are studied. It is important to study the relationship between Hollywood and China because Chinese censorship influences what we see in all kind of films around the world.Show less

To research whether the role of women in society is still being influenced through media by the government, various online media are studied. Well-known Chinese women portrayed in these media are linked to one of the four categories created by Hung and Li. However, an apparent difference between the images of women in formal and informal media was not found to illustrate whether the government manages the society via this instrument. This does not necessarily mean that the Chinese government does not desire to influence its society on this topic.Show less
