Many western and even more Japanese researchers attempted to create new viewpoints on his works. Due to the fact that more papers have written in Japanese than in western languages, not all aspects of Saikaku's works have made it overseas to a great extent. Two of these aspects are sui and tsū. Both internal parts of the red-light district culture that was thriving during the Edo period (1600 - 1868). Some researchers have touched upon these subjects, but tend to keep their explanation limited. As a western researcher, it is hard to come across information on these two aspects written in English. In this thesis, we will try to establish a definition of these two concepts and put the definition to the test by looking at passages of Kōshoku ichidai otoko 好色一代男 ("Life of an Amorous Man") written by IHARA Saikaku 井原西鶴 (1642 - 1693).Show less

This thesis answers the question of why the cult of Antinous was successful after the death of Antinous, and why it persisted even after Hadrian's death. With the use of epigraphical, archaeological, numismatic, and papyrological evidence, the thesis has concluded that the widespread use of Antinous' likeness, as well as his ties to his place of birth and place of death, had an impact on the success of the cult. The cult likely thrived too because of spontaneous veneration of Rome's subjects, as well as the aid of grassroots initiatives.Show less

Also, the development of the EU cyber diplomacy toolbox in 2017 already resulted in economic and diplomatic sanctions being imposed on Russia, further intensifying the relationship between two central powers in cyberspace and hinting at the use of a deterrence strategy by the EU. To further gain knowledge about the impact of the EU cyber diplomacy toolbox on Russia, this research aims to identify how the toolbox intents to functions against Russia. By doing so, the key characteristics of the deterrence strategy will function as the theoretical framework in this research, resulting into an overview of the key characteristics of the deterrence strategy. Furthermore, the purposes of the installation of the toolbox will be analysed. Likewise, with the use of case studies, the actual effects of the toolbox on Russia will be outlined to portray that the EU cyber diplomacy does intent to function as a method of a deterrence strategy against Russia.Show less
