First, it was examined whether multidisciplinary treatment with a specific physical approach reduced pain catastrophizing in patients with chronic low back pain. Subsequently, it was investigated which of the three dimensions of pain catastrophizing was reduced most. Furthermore, it was investigated which dimension of pain catastrophizing contributes most to a decrease in pain and disability and an increase in quality of life of patients with chronic low back pain. It was found that patients with chronic low back pain had significant lower levels of pain catastrophizing after receiving multidisciplinary treatment with a specific physical approach. Moreover, the results showed a significant decrease in all of the three dimensions of pain catastrophizing after treatment, with a highest decrease of the helplessness dimension. Rumination was found to be a significant unique predictor of a decrease in disability. Additionally, helplessness was found to be a significant unique predictor of a decrease in pain. No significant predictors were found for both the mental health related quality of life as well as physical health related quality of life.Show less
