It does this in two parts. The first part explains the theory and methodology behind this interdisciplinary approach. The second part utilizes that approach in a case study. This case study is 'how patterns of pillage exploited the Atlantic slave trade during the height of the golden age of piracy'.Show less

Hoewel volgens historici De Laets ‘religieuze’ jaren duurden tot en met de oprichting van de WIC, laat dit onderzoek zien dat in zijn ‘zakelijke’ jaren zijn geloof zich wel degelijk laat zien. Hoewel hij geen theologische boeken meer schrijft, is zijn religie wel degelijk te zien in zijn werk voor de WIC en in zijn boeken het Iaerlyck Verhael en de Nieuwe Wereldt.Show less

Its main argument is that Mediterranean news suited the needs of seventeenth-century news publishers in an exceptional way: "longue durée" Mediterranean realities such as corsair activity along the North African Coast provided a seemingly never-ending flow of news stories which helped to nourish the nascent "periodicity" of the early modern publishing business.Show less
