It delves into the way publisher Alice von Eugen took care of her responsibilities, both in the Netherlands and abroad, how decisions regarding design were taken, and whether the relationship between Dermoût and Von Eugen differed much from the relationships Dermoût had with others in the publishing world. Furthermore, a bibliography of all Maria Dermoût's works is added.Show less

It was written by the semi aristocratic and VOC-director Aarnout van Citters from Zeeland, The Netherlands. Recepten voor de Keuken/Recepten voor Menschen (Recipes for the Kitchen/Recipes for Humans), preserved in the Manuscript Department of Amsterdam University Library (shelf-mark VIII E 14), is a book with different content on each side. It features culinary recipes on one side, and, when the book is turned around, medical recipes on the other side. In this edition, all culinary recipes and a small selection of the medical recipes have been transcribed. The aim of this edition is to present this fascinating historical document about the art of cooking to the modern day reader and to offer a historical context to help the reader interpret the recipes.Show less

One such resource is the archive of the Haarlem publishing house, De Erven F. Bohn, housed at Leiden University Library. At the beginning of the twentieth century De Erven F. Bohn had several international partners, who published their work on commission, helped with the distribution of their publications, collaborated on projects and were asked for advice. One such partner was Gustav Fischer in Jena, Germany. Johannes Leendert Tadema, who was director of De Erven F. Bohn from 1899 to 1949, worked as an apprentice at Gustav Fischer Verlag before entering the management at Bohn. The personal and professional relationship that existed between Johannes Tadema and Gustav Fischer is apparent in the letters that passed between them and they offer a window into the publishing industry at the beginning of the twentieth century. This edition focuses on the letters exchanged between Gustav Fischer and De Erven F. Bohn from 1899 until 1909.Show less

This investigation was accomplished through the examination of twelve case studies that have been selected by the criteria of relatively recent release dates, broad spectrum of genres, and different gaming industries, i.e. AAA/mainstream and Indie developed games. Additionally, the background section of the thesis provides an insight in how text has played a role in the video game culture as well as to create an understanding of what video games are and what the reading culture entails. From this information and evidence it was concluded that contemporary video games contain sufficient amounts of texts to contribute to the reading culture, yet in varying degrees on account of the three factors, namely genre, industry, and realism that influence to what extent and in what manner text is incorporated in video games.Show less

Previous digitization projects had shown that these collections often contained prints or Plano’s that had remained uncatalogued as individual objects. The goal for this Plano project was to find and identify the objects in these collections and add them to the library’s catalogue as new, individual entities. During the first stages of the project over 2500 individual prints were discovered to be part of these ‘collection’ catalogue objects. Among these were eight folders of collected materials accompanied by handwritten notes and indexes. These folders were identified as the work of historian Georges-Joseph Gérard (1734-1814). This thesis argues that the eight folders are a part of Gérard’s planned Monumenta Historiae Belgicae project, a large-scale project with the intention of collecting all available source material on the history of the Southern Netherlands. Was the project important enough for Gérard to cut prints out of undamaged books, or did he acquire the source materials through other methods? The folders from the KB show that Gérard was not only an avid note-taker, but also a collector of prints.Show less
