Using a...Show moreThis research study examines the impact of the Dutch Work and Security Act (WWZ) on job quality in the Netherlands, specifically focusing on earnings, job security, and working conditions. Using a Difference-in-Difference (DiD) approach, the study compares the effects of the WWZ between two groups: employees with temporary contracts (treatment group) and employees with permanent contracts (control group). The Longitudinal Internet Studies for Social Sciences (LISS) dataset from 2013 to 2019 is utilized for the analysis. The results indicate that the WWZ has a significant positive effect on job security and working conditions, supporting the hypotheses. However, satisfaction with income is not significantly affected by the WWZ, contrary to expectations. When considering different sectors, the effects of the WWZ on job quality are not significant overall, except for a significant positive effect on job security in the commercial service sector. This finding suggests that there may be additional factors influencing job quality in different sectors, warranting further investigation. Overall, this study contributes to the understanding of the outcomes and consequences of the WWZ in terms of job quality for temporary employees in the Netherlands.Show less

Using a fixed effects regression approach with longitudinal data from the LISS data archive from the years 2018 to 2022, this study examines the effects of COVID-19 on job satisfaction and investigates gender-specific differences. Contrary to initial expectations, the analysis finds no significant difference in job satisfaction between men and women when considering year-specific gender differences. Furthermore, the impact of COVID-19 on job satisfaction appears to be limited, with relatively stable levels observed across the examined years (2020, 2021, and 2022) compared to the base year of 2019. Thereby this research contributes to the understanding of job satisfaction dynamics in the Dutch labour market.Show less

Hiertoe is gebruik gemaakt van een Difference-in-Differences (DiD) analyse met het Fixed-Effects model op basis van longitudinale gegevens van behandelings- en controlegroepen afkomstig uit het LISS-panel, waarmee betere causale interpretaties gedaan kan worden over de geschatte effecten van de onafhankelijke variabelen op de afhankelijke variabele binnen dit onderzoek. De onderzoeksresultaten laten zien dat er géén significant effect is geweest.Show less

It investigates the differences in...Show moreThis thesis studies the relationship between contract type and training participation and how the Wet Werk en Zekerheid (WWZ) influenced the relationship. It investigates the differences in participation for three training categories between temporary and permanent employees. The analysis relies on Dutch panel data and uses linear probability and linear probability difference-in-differences models to estimate the effects. The findings show that temporary employees receive less firm-sponsored training than permanent employees and invest more in their own trainings, but that the introduction of the WWZ did not result in significant changes in the relationship. The empirical analysis also considers heterogeneity effects between men and women. The findings shed light on important factors that should be taken into account when designing lifelong learning policies.Show less

Zeker aangezien de...Show moreIn een relatief duurdere huizenmarkt waar de prijzen maar excessief blijven stijgen is het van belang voor beleidsmakers om verder inzicht te krijgen wat dit voor effecten heeft. Zeker aangezien de Nederlandse overheid invloed heeft gehad op deze stijgingen met bijvoorbeeld het welbekende jubelton. Reistijd is een onderwerp dat al reeds is onderzocht maar er is weinig te vinden over wat het effect van relatief hogere huizenprijzen hierop is. Loan to income ratio, ofwel LTI is gebruikt om meer inzicht te krijgen in wat de relatief duurdere woningmarkt voor effect heeft gehad op de voorkeuren van de burgers rondom de bereidheid om verder te reizen naar hun werk door middel van fixed effects regressies. De data die werd gebruikt is verkregen via het LISS data panel. Uit de resultaten is gebleken dat in tegenstelling tot de verwachting het effect van LTI op reistijd in de duurdere periode 2017-2020 minder negatief blijkt ten opzichte van de periode met lagere prijzen 2013-2016. Wat dus de indicatie geeft dat bij een periode van hogere/sterker stijgende prijzen er minder waarde wordt gehecht aan financiële prikkels door de woningzoekende/woningeigenaren. Echter was de verklarende kracht van LTI op de reistijd zeer klein, aangetoond door de lage (adjusted) r-squared in alle regressies. Daarom kan er uit dit onderzoek nog geen adequate conclusie getrokken worden over het effect van LTI op de reistijdvoorkeuren van huiseigenaren in een periode van hoge prijzen ten opzichte van een periode met lagere koopwoningprijzen. Ook waren er belangrijke tekortkomingen in dit onderzoek en is er verder onderzoek nodig naar dit onderwerp om verder inzicht te krijgen naar de effecten van een koopwoningmarkt met relatief hoge prijzen.Show less
