The main...Show moreThe purpose of this research is to examine what distinguishes Japanese women who have attained managerial positions from those who haven't, with a specific focus on social capital. The main question is “How did Japanese women in managerial positions negotiate their surroundings and utilized their social capital for their career advancement?”, which we have attempted to answer through the conduct of through life-history research. We found that all informants were supported by their parents in various life choices, such as education and job perspectives. This equipped them not only with the cultural capital needed to find employment, but we also suggest this has influenced their attitude towards work and may have provided them with certain non-cognitive skills that helped them in their career advancement. Moreover, the roles of social networks became particularly explicit in the context of negotiating childcare with the full-time job responsibilities. It was however not a matter of expanding the network, but strengthening the already existing ties that was essential for these women. Finally, we saw that the composition of the family also played a significant role in the women's career advancement: in particular the husband's occupation and help from the parents enabled working mothers to combine their careers with childrearing activities.Show less

Prior...Show moreWhen infants have two possible rules that they can discover in an artificial language, a prosodic rule and a structure rule, which one do they discover and does this change with development? Prior studies on infants’ cue weighing suggest a preference for prosodic cues for eight-month-old infants, and a preference for structure for ten-month-old infants when segmenting speech. Using a Headturn Preference Procedure with adapted stimuli from Spierings and ten Cate (2014), we compared looking times for a prosody and structure test condition. We found condition did not have a significant effect on looking time. However, ten-month-old infants had significantly longer looking times compared to the eight-month-old infants. We also found a significant difference for gender, suggesting that female infants have a preference for a different cue to discover underlying language patterns than males.Show less

Dit zal ik ook doen met de Lieripe, een Nederlandstalige bewerking van de Pantagrueline Prognostication, van een anonieme bron. De komst van het neoliberalisme zorgde voor een grote verandering van de economisch...Show moreDeze scriptie bestudeert de oorzaken en de gevolgen van de privatisering van de watervoorziening in Bolivia. De komst van het neoliberalisme zorgde voor een grote verandering van de economisch politieke situatie die gevolgen met zich meebracht voor de bevolking. In deze scriptie zal de verandering voor de inwoners van Cochabamba centraal staan. Het neoliberale beleid zorgde in deze stad aan het einde van de jaren 90 voor privatisering van de watervoorziening. Dit had een zeer ongewenst effect op de toegankelijkheid van water voor de inwoners. Het conflict dat hierdoor ontstond escaleerde rondom de eeuwwisseling en staat bekend als de Wateroorlog. In deze scriptie zullen alle gebeurtenissen rondom de Wateroorlog worden geanalyseerd en zal er aandacht worden besteed aan de post-neoliberale situatie vanaf 2005 waarbij de ontwikkeling rondom het recht op water zal worden onderzocht.Show less
